AltFreq Weekend Planner (1/15-1/17)

Written by Kevin Madert

It’s nearly impossible to keep track of all the events going on in the area, so we’re here to let you know what’s happening in live music over the next few days. Watch out on Sundays for our “Weekly Planner,” where we’ll cover the remaining four days of the week.

Thursday 1/15:

DC

Wild Child @ 930 Club – (Tickets / Info)

Kawehi @ U Street Music Hall (EARLY SHOW) – (Tickets / Info)

(ALTFREQ PICK) Destructo @ U Street Music Hall (LATE SHOW) – Fans of this Los Angeles-based deep and techy DJ/producer know his backstory, but his influence and contributions are such that it still bears mentioning. The founder of west coast events juggernaut HARD – an empire he built out of little more than some underground after-parties in LA years ago – and the creator/curator of music festival mecca Holy Ship!, he’s known to his fervent followers as The Hardfather (Gary Richards is fine, too). He comes to DC on the second stop of the Ship2Ship tour (taking place between the January and February sailings of his high-seas soiree), and brings with him fellow Ship regulars Motez, Anna Lunoe and T. Williams. Without doubt the show of the weekend. (Tickets / Info)

Jon B @ The Howard Theatre – (Tickets / Info)

The Lucky So So’s @ Rock & Roll Hotel – (Tickets / Info)

The Mallett Brothers @ Gypsy Sally’s – *21+ show* (Tickets / Info)

Baltimore

Nature Of The Beats @ Red Maple – *No Cover, 21+ show* (Info)

Municipal Waste @ Baltimore Soundstage – (Tickets / Info)

Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds @ The 8×10 – (Tickets)

Friday 1/16:

DC

Cowboy Mouth @ 930 Club (EARLY SHOW) – (Tickets / Info)

(ALTFREQ PICK) Team Supreme Tour Ft. Mr. Carmack & Djemba Djemba @ 930 Club (LATE SHOW) – Our affinity for Steez Promo is no less a secret than their uncanny ability to bring great show after great show to the DMV and beyond. This Friday, they’re bringing in the Team Supreme boys to take over the 930 Club in a haze of sultry hip-hop and booming bass. Both Mr. Carmack and Djemba Djemba could probably pull in 25 dollars a ticket solo, so 15 dollars for a full night of OWSLA-approved tuneage is a steal indeed. (Tickets / Info)

T.I. @ Echostage – (Tickets / Info)

Boris @ U Street Music Hall – *Free for 21+ before 12AM* (Tickets / Info)

Livio & Roby @ Flash – *Free before 11PM* (Tickets / Info)

DJ ?uestlove @ The Howard Theatre – (Tickets / Info)

People’s Blues of Richmond @ Black Cat – (Tickets / Info)

French Admirals @ Rock & Roll Hotel – (Tickets / Info)

No BS! Brass Band @ Gypsy Sally’s – *21+ show* (Tickets / Info)

Baltimore

(ALTFREQ PICK) D.V.S* @ Red Maple – If you caught our write-up of this future-bass baron’s most recent LP you know we’re big fans of his work. Whether bouncing behind the tables or shredding on the guitar, Derek Van Scoten never disappoints; five dollars for a headlining set is practically free for the sonic roller coaster ride you’ll be embarking upon. *$5 cover, 21+ show* (Info)

Girlfriend In A Coma (Smiths/Morrisey Tribute) @ Ottobar – *18+ show* (Tickets / Info)

Splintered Sunlight @ The 8×10 – (Tickets)

Fredericksburg

(ALTFREQ PICK) The Bassment’s One Year Anniversary Celebration @ The Bassment – This week we’ve got a special Fredericksburg mention. It may be a bit of the hike from the DC/Baltimore area, but this show is certainly worth the trip. This is the one year anniversary of The Bassment, celebrating a full year jam packed with awesome shows billed with a lot of big names you would never expect to see in a smaller town like Fredericksburg. The Bassment hit the ground running throwing impressive shows from day one, and here they are a year later set to top all of them with a lineup featuring Luzcid, and tons of local/regional talent like Tre Justice, Ruckle, Rabat and M. Pyre. *$10 cover, 18+ show* (Tickets/Info)

Saturday 1/17:

DC

(ALTFREQ PICK) Cotton Candy Galaxy @ DC Warehouse – BADASS Raves is starting 2015 strong, with a quickly expanding lineup of winter/early spring shows. Kicking it off (Laser Disco nonwithstanding) is another installment in the Cotton Candy series of events. Set to be held at the Banger warehouse in Washington, DC, and sporting a lineup packed to bursting with local talent (see: Des McMahon and Soohan, among others), this is an all-night party that’s indicative of the great things to come from this event company in 2015. (Tickets / Info)

Super Diamond @ 930 Club – (Tickets / Info)

Nervo @ Echostage – (Tickets / Info)

Rev 909 (Daft Punk/French House Tribute) @ U Street Music Hall – (Tickets / Info)

Dyed Soundorom @ Flash – (Tickets / Info)

Reverend Horton Heat @ Black Cat – (Tickets / Info)

Hemlines @ Rock & Roll Hotel – (Tickets / Info)

Baltimore

Ten (Pearl Jam Tribute) @ Rams Head Live – (Tickets / Info)
