Choppy Oppy Traverses Multi-Genre Terrain On “Into The Aleph” Mix

If you’re a DMV resident, chances are you’ve heard of Choppy Oppy – real name Jared Oppenheim – even if you think you haven’t. Based locally, he’s been warming up the bass bins at shows around the area for about a half-decade. He’s been heavily involved in the planning of Trapitol Hill, a series of events that’s brought artists like ETC! ETC! alongside a host of familiar local names to DC for an always wild evening. Most recently he released a mix that caught our ears, and it’s that mix we’re sharing with you here.
“Into The Aleph” is a sonic adventure through a myriad of bass-centric genres. Clocking in at a little under an hour in length, Choppy Oppy manages to meander from future-bass to down ‘n’ dirty trap to in-your-face dubstep, before concluding with a blitz of well-picked glitch-hop. Track selection is always crucial in mix-crafting, but this is especially true when you’re not utilizing your own productions; pick poorly and you’ll be hard-pressed to stand out among the Soundcloud masses. Choppy Oppy’s choices are those of an informed musical consumer; there’s some great glitch (Adapted Records regulars Mat Tha Hat, Warp9, and Cheshire all make appearances) some hard-hitting trap (Moody Good’s take on “Burial” stands out) and plenty of other gems (I’ll never complain about hearing Kayla Scintilla and 6Blocc in the same mix).
