News: BMG acquires Rise Records

Posted by on May 18, 2015 in Latest, News, Reads | 0 comments

According to Billboard, BMG has purchased metal record label, Rise Records. Rise is based out of Portland, Oregon and was founded in 1991 by Craig Ericson. The label really began to take off in the mid-2000’s thanks to their prodigious employment of digital media in a time when other labels were either fumbling to understand the new technology, or simply ignoring it all together. Rise’s early adoption, and fantastic integration of the new media format skyrocketed the label to the forefront of the metal scene, and they haven’t looked back since.

This is fantastic news for Rise Records, as Ericson will remain at the helm, the label will remain at their Oregon location, and for all intents and purposes, their stellar business model will remain intact. They will, however, be receiving a massive push from BMG in the form of a huge, international distribution network. So it really goes without saying that big things are on the horizon for Rise Records, and I, for one, am really excited to see what they do with these new resources.

As Mid-Atlantic mega-fest Lockn’ put the finishing touches on its third-year lineup, I found myself wondering how the “interlocking music festival” would be able to compile a coherent schedule from the dozens of world-class acts that had already been announced. When the day-by-day program was unveiled late last week my focus shifted to plotting a survival plan for the weekend – all four days are packed with can’t-miss performances and unique collaborations.

News: Brian Fallon Performs With Butch Walker

Posted by on May 4, 2015 in Latest, News, Reads | 0 comments

Brian Fallon of The Gaslight Anthem is always doing cool acoustic covers, or onstage collaborations; there is no shortage of interesting b-side material from this guy. And today is no exception, last week, Fallon joined singer songwriter/producer/all around awesome musician, Butch Walker, on stage at a show in Philadelphia to perform Walker’s song “21+” off his new album, Afraid of Ghosts.

The collaboration is, predictably, really really good. It features two of the most prominent and talented names in traditional American rock, coming together to perform a wonderful song off a wonderful album. There’s really nothing that can go wrong. Check out the video after the jump.
