While music festival scheduling has expanded to encompass just about the entire calendar year, summer is still the true peak of “festival season.” Days are getting longer, the air is getting warmer, and before you know it your jeans and jackets will be relegated to a dark corner of your closet in favor of booty shorts and pasties – er, t-shirts and shorts.
If you’re looking to start the summer off right, you may want to start planning a late May or early June getaway. That’s where we come in; read on for a quick rundown of AltFreq’s can’t-miss early summer festivals.

–Words and list by Mike Hogan
I’ve been on a bit of a roll with metalcore this week (you can blame August Burns Red for that one). It’s seen me revisiting the genre, and listening to some of my favorite albums, whether old and new. As we prepare to begin our weekend, I figure there’s no better way to get pumped than some good ol’ breakdowns and ridiculous guitar work.

In just over two months more than a hundred thousand people will flock from around the world to a field in the middle of Tennessee, braving broiling temperatures and Billy Joel fans* to spend a weekend at one of the world’s largest and best known music festivals. Hell, their website promises “Melt-in-your-mouth eats,” “Outrageous nightly parades,” and even something called “Splash-A-Roo And The Big-Ass Waterslide.”
On April Fool’s Day (we swear it’s not a joke), the festival announced the lineup for perhaps their largest non-music offering: The Comedy Theatre. Television host and Nerdist founder Chris Hardwick, bandleader and oddball extraordinaire Reggie Watts, and guy who seems to only appear on Comedy Central Roasts Jeff Ross top a solid list of stand-up comics appearing at Bonnaroo 2015.

Singer/song writer/pedophile Front Porch Step wrote a lengthy diatribe addressing recent allegations that he sexually assaulted and molested several underage women. Highlights include claiming that it is as much the fault of the girls he was texting, how excited he was that women – while it is not necessarily my position to take such liberties as a journalist, I will presume he’s speaking about underage ones – were calling him hot and sexy, and so on.
It’s long, it’s poorly thought out, and it is most definitely cringe-worthy. We’ve included a transcript of the post below, but honestly, I can’t even say it’s worth the read.
