The Daily Frequency (8/14/14)

Written by Kevin Madert

This is a daily post we’ll be running to keep you as up-to-date on musical goings-on as we can. We’ll be gathering news tidbits from across the music world and compiling them for you towards the end of each day. This is not meant to be an all-encompassing source for music news, but rather a collection of news items we found interesting, important, or otherwise necessary to share.

Today, a lot of things happened in the world of music. Here are some of them.

1. Chicago’s über-rocking RiotFest just released the schedule of events for their aftershows. Whether eyeing the obvious – Rise Against Thursday and Primus on Saturday probably shouldn’t be missed – or the niche – pop-punk is alive and well at The Get Up Kids and Modern Baseball – there are plenty of options. The best by far? An Andrew W.K. DJ set – unquestionably the most party way to afterparty.

2. Australian neuro-glitch funk fans rejoice! Adapted Records announced the release of a remix compilation drawing entirely on Melbourne-based Cheshire’s first three EPs. With tunes from Staunch, Beat Fatigue, Howla and more the album – due out in late September – promises to be an eclectic, funkified affair. Via Facebook.

3. New Blockhead is never a bad thing. After five albums with NinjaTune, the chill-hop veteran is going it alone on his upcoming album Bells & Whistles. In advance of its release, he’s leaked a track from it and written a lengthy blog post to accompany it. Give it a listen below and hit the link to pick the NYC-based producer’s brain. Via Blockhead.

4. The Acacia Strain and Emmure are headed out on tour together – pretty impressive considering a few years back frontmen Vincent Bennett and Frankie Palmeri slugged it out in Clifton Park, NY. The wonderfully named Eternal Enemies Tour will feature support from Stray From The Path, Fit For A King, and Kublai Khan, and perhaps a few more fisticuffs. Via Metal Injection.

5. Some guys you’ve never heard of tweeted the release date of the first single off their rarely discussed and not at all anticipated full length debut album. The track, entitled “Resistance,” will be available for free download on August 25, with the album not far behind.
