AltFreq Weekend Planner (5/14/15-5/16/15)

Written by Kevin Madert

It’s nearly impossible to keep track of all the events going on in the area, so we’re here to let you know what’s happening in live music over the next few days. Watch out on Sundays for our “Weekly Planner,” where we’ll cover the remaining four days of the week.

Thursday 5/14:

DC

Aaron Watson @ 930 Club – (Tickets / Info)

(ALTFREQ PICK) (SOLD OUT) Dear Jerry @ Merriweather Post Pavilion – Those of us who didn’t manage to grab tickets to the Grateful Dead’s final run in Chicago July 4 weekend (read: almost everyone) rejoiced when Dear Jerry was announced. About thirty seconds after tickets went on sale, 99 percent of us were once again left out. For the one percent who’s in (myself included) the show should be a talent-packed event in celebration of the music of Jerry Garcia. This one is way sold out; if you don’t have tickets, godspeed. (Info)

(ALTFREQ PICK) Justin Martin @ U Street Music Hall (LATE SHOW) – Putting together these weekend planners reminds me week in and week out how lucky we are in the DMV. Last Thursday, Dirtybird co-founder Claude VonStroke put on a tech house clinic at U Street Music Hall. This week, his other half will grace the very same DJ booth. Justin Martin’s performances are just as energetic and his song selection is similarly on point, so it’s essentially a no-brainer. This one is free for 21+ before 11PM, so show up early and get in free of charge. (Tickets / Info)

(ALTFREQ PICK) Skism, Habstrakt, Laxx & Megalodon @ Baltimore Soundstage – Steez Promo’s dates at Baltimore’s Soundstage are always a guaranteed good time, and this Saturday is no different. Never Say Die boss Skism brings his deft vinyl skills to the tables alongside labelmates Habstrakt, Laxx, and Megalodon. Together, the foursome pack enough hard-hitting bass to satiate even the most diehard filth-seekers.  (Tickets / Info)
